From the Studio
Welcome to the Studio
A peek behind the paintings. This is where the work happens — early mornings, cold coffees, paint-covered everything, and the occasional moment where a canvas finally clicks.
On the Easel Right Now
Something new is taking shape. Blues are involved. A lot of them. That's all I'm saying for now — follow @abstractbysonal for the first look.
This Month's Palette
Coral. Deep teal. The exact orange of a sunset you're not sure actually happened. And a pink that keeps showing up uninvited but somehow belongs.
Currently Playing in the Studio
Every painting has a soundtrack. Right now it's a mix of lo-fi, Norah Jones, and whatever Spotify thinks pairs well with turpentine. I'll share the playlist soon.
Things I've Learned This Month
- The second version is almost always better than the first
- Orange and teal were made for each other
- You can't rush a sky — it sets its own pace
- The painting tells you when it's finished. You just have to listen.
The One That Almost Didn't Make It
Every collection has one — the painting I nearly painted over. Then I stepped back, tilted my head, and realised it was the most interesting thing on the wall. Sometimes the unexpected ones are the ones that stay with you.
Studio Hours
Most mornings start early with coffee and colour mixing. The best light comes through the studio windows around 10am — that's when the real work begins. By afternoon, I'm usually covered in paint and completely lost in it. That's the best part.
